‘While the winter feast is one way of feeling like you’re getting the true Dark Mofo experience, you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t spend at least one evening sheltering away from the cold in Talisker’s Wilderness Bar’ GQ
The brooding Tasmanian winter and the bewitching magic of the Dark Mofo festival provided the perfect backdrop for the Talisker Wilderness Bar, a cosy seaside homage to Scotland’s Isle of Skye, the home of the Talisker distillery.
Set aglow by the flames of open log fires, the space was nautical-inspired – resembling a boat shed made from rustic timbers awash with navy blue, fishing nets draping the corrugated iron roof. Walkers who had ventured along the Dark Path cosied up on the decking and were treated to Talisker-spiced hot toddies in blue enamel camping mugs, whisky-spiked oysters and blue-cheese jaffles. It was the perfect spot to take refuge on a wintry Hobart night and share tales of adventure, a magic addition to the magnetic experience-rich festival.
‘While the winter feast is one way of feeling like you’re getting the true Dark Mofo experience, you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t spend at least one evening sheltering away from the cold in Talisker’s Wilderness Bar, which is just a stone’s throw away from the smoke, fire and musical acts that dot the rest of Hobart come festival time. This year, it’s also joined by a dedicated pop-up inside the Winter Feast as well.
The menu at the Wilderness Bar is heavy and warming, replete with Tasmanian Blue Cheese Jaffles and warm cocktails making use of Talisker’s smoky, briny Isle of Skye Whisky, while the decor and jaunty musical acts give that little twist of boat-shed-inspired rusticism that captures both the spirit of Tasmanian adventure, and that of Dark Mofo itself.’ GQ
